SPECIALIZATIONS

OCD

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold standard for the treatment of OCD. ERP helps you to free yourself from the cycle of obsessions and compulsions. It effectively reduces anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and the mental or behavioral responses that result. This is a powerful skill that can significantly help you to develop long-term coping skills to manage your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

EMDR for Trauma

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced-based treatment for trauma recovery. EMDR involves integrating bilateral stimulation (eye movements, alternating taps to both sides of the body, alternating audio) to help process and release stuck memories and bring them to an adaptive resolution, thus reducing the associated emotional distress, reframing negative beliefs, and decreasing physiological arousal. EMDR is a powerful treatment that can effectively help you to recover from traumatic and adverse life experiences, including but not limited to: childhood abuse and neglect, sexual assault, grief and loss, combat trauma, chronic medical illnesses, and major accidents or other significant life events. Attachment-focused EMDR is the cornerstone of the Parnell Institute’s training, emphasizing both the adaptive resolution of trauma and the relationship between the therapist and client.

Gottman Method for Couples

The Gottman Institute is renowned for their research and development of the Gottman Method for couples therapy. The Gottman Method helps couples develop skills to improve their communication, manage conflict effectively, and cultivate a deeper and healthier relationship. These skills help couples to have greater long-term happiness and satisfaction in their relationships. If you are experiencing frequent conflict or poor communication, lack of emotional depth or intimacy, are feeling disconnected from one another, or experiencing any other relationship concerns, the Gottman Method can support your journey as a couple towards building a stronger and happier relationship.

CBT for Anxiety

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a powerful treatment tool based on the premise that the way we perceive a situation (or an event, trigger, incident) is more likely to determine our reaction than the actual situation itself. When individuals have distorted ways of interpreting situations, it can lead to significant distress or impairment, often causing maladaptive behavioral patterns as a result. CBT can help you to better identify and subsequently adaptively evaluate your thoughts and challenge negative thought patterns, thus beginning the process of making positive behavioral changes. CBT is an illustrious tool that can help you to develop long-term coping skills that effectively reduce the problematic patterns that you find yourself repeating in your life and relationships.
